Graduate Non-Degree Study

Academically qualified individuals pursuing a deeper understanding in an area of interest, whether for personal or professional reasons, are welcome to attend our classes and use a variety of campus resources.

Nonmatriculated Study

Nonmatriculated 糖心传媒 may take up to 12 credits that may be used as prerequisites for advanced study, applied toward a degree in the future, or for personal or professional development. Applicants for nonmatriculated study are required to present evidence of a baccalaureate or graduate degree from a fully, regionally accredited institution when they apply for admission. Whether you are interested in registering for graduate or undergraduate coursework, all bachelor's degree holders use the to apply. Auditing Policy

It is not the policy to permit either Hofstra or non-Hofstra 糖心传媒 to audit graduate courses (200-level or higher). Auditing of undergraduate courses is made available to individuals not enrolled in any institution of higher education as a service to enrich their knowledge in a particular area, upon payment of 50 percent of the regular part-time undergraduate tuition. COMMUNICATIONS

PR 264: Digital Communications
This course focuses on the use of digital communications and web-based technology for the public relations practitioner. The course will help to ensure that PR graduate 糖心传媒 are exposed to the updated skills needed as public relations has evolved from a traditional, journalism-based practice to a complex profession requiring proficiencies and strategic thinking in integrated marketing communications and the digital (photography, VNRs, podcasts, etc.) and internet-based (social media, content design, audio slideshows, viral videos, web sites, etc.) technology employed therein.

PR 278: Communicating the Climate Change Crisis
Almost every business and organization will be impacted by climate change if they are not already, and communicators will need to be familiar with the numerous related issues and their expected impact. Public relations professionals will also have to understand what tools they can use 鈥� including the development of key messages and the importance of social media, to name but two 鈥� to effectively communicate to key stakeholders.

FORENSIC LINGUISTICS

LING 220: U.S. Investigatory and Litigation Applications of Forensic Linguistics
Primarily through the lens of U.S. law enforcement, counter-intelligence, and threat management, this one-week long intensive course offers a case-based approach to solving legal and law enforcement problems through linguistic analysis. This course demonstrates how forensic linguistics augments legal analysis by applying rigorous, scientifically accepted principles of linguistic analysis to legal evidence such as letters, confessions, contracts, and recorded speech. HEALTH ADMINISTRATION

HADM 200: US Health System
Learn more about the evolution of the health services system in the US and the prospects for change through our US Health System course. This course emphasizes on describing such health services as hospitals, nursing homes, ambulatory and home health care, and behavioral health facilities, as well as discussing issues relating to governmental roles, health insurance, and professional autonomy and development. PSYCHOLOGY

PSY 270: Evolutionary Psychology
Through the use of an evolutionary psychology perspective, this course aims to provide a scientific data base to understand the ultimate origins of human nature, include practical and political implications. Topics covered in this course will include monogamy and its connection with different genders, social status and the urges to achieve different levels, and the mental process behind preferences and favoritism. PUBLIC HEALTH

MPH 200 - Introduction to Public Health
Expand your knowledge in public health through a course that explores its interdisciplinary nature; key historical moments and developments; models and frameworks for understanding health in populations; primary concerns such as infectious and chronic disease; and disparities in health status by race, socioeconomic status, and gender. Analyze case studies of significant public health challenges and achievements to illustrate how public health works to transform the health of groups by working at multiple levels of the social ecologic model. Standards for ethical practice, including cultural competency, are considered.

MPH 207 - Critical Decisions in Public Health Emergencies
Acquire the knowledge to manage public health emergencies and work with stakeholders throughout the community during ongoing and developing crises, unexpected events, emergencies, and disasters through our Critical Decisions in Public Health Emergencies course . Experts from the field will address special topics such as problem solving at the federal, state, and local level; emergency preparedness; managing disaster behavioral health; population aging; and suburban health disparities. Engage in seminar-styled discussions and group interactive projects that emphasize real-time, inter-professional decision-making.

SBLY 206: Sustainability Theory and Practice
Offered once a year, this course focuses on the theory and practice of sustainability. Classes are hosted in a seminar format and readings are authored by significant sustainability writers.
