A Night in India

Featuring Dr. Sumeet Anand Pandey, a hereditary musician of the illustrious Darbhanga lineage of vocalists from Bihar in India known particularly for Dhrupad, the ancient style of North Indian (also known as Hindustani) classical music that developed in the 14th century. A disciple of Pandit Abhay Narayan Mallick (grandnephew and master disciple of Padmashri Pandit Ram Chatur Mallick), Sumeet has been professionally active as a performer and teacher for more than a decade.

Amy London presents "Women in Jazz and Popular Song"

Celebrating the works of Mary Lou Williams, Bernice Petkere, Fran Landesman, Betty Comden, Annie Ross, Joni Mitchell, Laura Nyro, Lady Gaga, Lynn Ahrens and more. London is known and loved in New York City jazz and Broadway circles for her effortless sound, impeccable musicianship and depth of emotion. Her most recent CD on Motema, "The Royal Bopsters Project," features a vocal jazz quartet with Ms London as the leader and soprano. More at .

RHODA PINSELY LEVIN HONORS RECITAL
 

Featuring Madeline Dagger, cello

Madeline is a student of Professor Deborah Sepe.

The annual Rhoda Pinsley Levin Endowed Award for Excellence in Musical Performance was established in memory of the celebrated pianist, teacher and music patron Rhoda Pinsley Levin, who was active in the Hofstra community.  It honors accomplished senior undergraduate performing musicians, provides financial assistance for related scholarly or vocational pursuits, and presents recitals featuring the award recipients each year.  The award was created as a memorial by Mrs. Levin鈥檚 husband, the late Harvey J. Levin, a longtime Hofstra economics and research professor and pioneering, internationally influential economist.

This recital is free and open to the public.

WILLIAM B. ROSENCRANS HONORS RECITAL
 

Featuring Elizabeth Byrne, mezzo-soprano

Elizabeth is a student of Professor Tammy Hensrud.

The William B. Rosencrans Endowed Music Scholarship is awarded to a qualified junior or senior student majoring in music, whose work is then featured in this annual spring concert.  The award was created in 1997 by Marion Rosencrans as a memorial to her husband and the first annual recital was presented in 1998.

This recital is free and open to the public.
